Our Poorness

We live in the most abundant time in the history of mankind.

No wonder we’re the poorest.

The more we have — the more we could have.

Greed creates more greed.

Ambition creates more ambition.

Need creates more need.

Distraction prevents attention.

Our material abundance causes us to neglect the spirit.

We become spiritually poor, distracted by vain pursuits.

You will always be poor for as long as you NEED something.

Asceticism – though means to an end – is more relevant today then ever before.

Monks throughout the history had less distractions and means of self-escape then we do — still they subjected themselves to austerities.

For many of us dopamine-drama-stimulation-junkies – asceticism may be inevitable. Consider it a rehab.

Your distraction, stimulation, glitter-filled life is recipe for disaster.

Don’t touch any meds before you’ve changed your life.

The greed must be reversed. The motivations must be reforged. The noise must quieten.

The point of restraint is not discipline, strength, self-growth, virtue.

The point of restraint is FREEDOM.

Overindulgence leads to addiction.

The point of restraint is CONTENTMENT.

Overindulgence ruins the simple joy of life.

I write these words, again, as a reminder, to you and myself,

please be simple

be simply, live simple: and you should know peace, you should know joy, you should know contentment, and you should know the abundance of this vast world.
