The very first step to building your social capital is realising the value of social resources
Once that is understood — the rest is straight-forward
The rest is straight-forward:
—you gather valuable resources
—you offer your own resources in exchange (nothing’s free)
When you don’t understand the value of social resources — you will basically not care.
That’s most people’s problem. They don’t consciously realise the importance of a powerful network. Therefore they neglect their social contacts and fail to capitalise on social opportunities
When you don’t understand that the value binds EVERY relationship together — your relationships will crumble
You will ask for value without giving — which is not a kind of relationship which can last
Or your value will be inadequate to the value you’re deriving from the relationship — in which case the arrangement won’t last either
When you understand that it’s value which binds every relationship together — you take it upon yourself to provide adequate value to every relationship you have
Realise the value of social capital
THINGS are made by human individuals and human groups
INFORMATION circulates between people
Social capital is as valuable as wealth
Mind you social capital has little to do with social networks
The reciprocal relationship is a quality independent of cultural or technological circumstances
Tools can help facilitate the pre-existing arrangement — but are not what creates it
YOU create relationships with people
Technology can facilitate it
Or ruin it
The latter is commonly the case these days — as global connectivity gave us illusion of building meaningful networks and relationships — while in actuality these connections are not bound by mutual interest, values, value exchange, responsibility
Therefore realise the value of social capital
Realise what social capital is or isn’t
It’s not your friends on facebook mind you
Build wealth in this area of your life
