Freedom From Information; Minimalism

consider what it would be like

to NOT have to BE INFORMED at all,

how much more pure and blissful all would be

you’d trade a little excitation and fleeting engagement and sense of control — for stillness of existence

Information is obviously entropic

It’s a weight which must be metabolised,

It’s hard to fucking tell just how much of a load information is: cognitively, psychologically

But you can tell there’s a difference when you’re NOT under it’s assault

Information may feel “light” but it nevertheless has weight

ESPECIALLY the way we consume it — we are fucking GORGING on it

It’s not just one high-sugar candy — it’s 1000 high sugar candies

And then you get high blood sugar and you feel sick and then you have diabetics and then you fucking die

It was just a small candy

I obviously recommend freeing oneself from distractions

I recommend ruthless prioritisation. It’s the necessary resource-management of this clearly scarce resource: time

I recommend information minimalism

In truth I recommend ALL kind of minimalism

Why does a cluttered space weight you down?

It’s the same principle: it DISTRACTS YOU and TAKES AWAY from your COGNITIVE RESOURCES.

It really may not be worth the trade-off, all that extra information, extra stuff

NOTHING’s FREE. Everything has CONSEQUENCES

That object is not free.

That information is not free.

That idea is not free.

That thought is not free.

That insight is not free.

That space is not free.

EVERYTHING HAS CONSEQUENCES, EVERYTHING HAS OPPORTUNITY COST.

Everything takes some space, takes some time, takes some energy,

no matter how minuscule

NOTHING’S FREE

So why not get rid of all the noise, all the clutter, all the TAXES and INTERESTS you pay for all the bullshit in your life

It’s NOT free

It takes away from something else

It dilutes your resources

And why not become extremely CONSCIOUS about it all

We take it all for granted

We take everything that happens to us for granted, and then we die, and we’re so surprised, life has been so short

Why sleep throughout this short precious life? Why not be MORE AWAKE?

Why not examine EVERY SINGLE THING THAT HAPPENS TO US?

Examine it’s significance, it’s value, it’s purpose

And then CHOOSE if we want MORE of that thing or less

And you’d do it in the large scale

And you’d do it in the small scale

It’s a matter of attitude

Everything has a price

Choose carefully

Get rid of all this waste

Distil it all down to the highest potency

And distil your life to the highest potency
