Progress, innovation, tech don’t merely:
-improve the life and wealth of everyone
-and increase the wealth of the innovators disproportionately, further separating them from the rest of the society
Progress does the creative destruction indeed,
where it’s those who derive the most benefits from the current economies of scales, systems and institutions, technological advantages — become disrupted,
Everyman gains,
The new innovators gain far more,
and the old innovators lose their relative dominance
Therefore everyman always gains
Someone always gains far more,
But the one who gains far more — is never certain to gain
And is certain to eventually be displaced
Of course wealth accumulated too is destroyed
May take more than a lifetime, but it happens
The wealthy must at very least keep up with the rest of the world in terms of merit
Otherwise their wealth-leverage, their unfair advantage — slowly dissipates
And if they must keep up with the rest — then they are no longer so very privileged, are they
Yes, for the same inputs, they get better outputs
But they must keep up with their input ability, otherwise they lose
And they still lose eventually, because the new innovators create wealth near from nothing
They think in terms of 1000x the capital, or 1000000x , not merely 2x or 10x or even 100x
What seems to me is that nature just can’t be stopped
Meaning: change just can’t be stopped
Not until we have full control over nature, over reality — will we be equal… or PERMANENTLY unequal
Get it?
We can’t keep any state of affairs permanently
The mere existence of opportunity to do something different, do something better — means it will eventually be done different, done better
And then the wealth, the attention, the power — will go there
You can’t stop it
Indeed
We should only ever be interested in progress,
In innovation,
And ignore the SUPERFICIAL differences between each other
There’s only the progress of the humanity as a whole
And the progress of you as an individual
Both compare only to itself
Humanity progresses as compared to humanity yesterday
Individual progresses as compared to himself yesterday
Meaning it is not a competition of individuals
That can be ignored utterly
That can be ignored utterly
Inequality is largely moot, a distraction
A negative side effect of progress
It only becomes a true problem if it prevents the progress
But what I argue is that progress is such a profound, ridiculously powerful DISRUPTOR — that no one manages to hold on to their advantage for long
So there’s no inequality in the sense of the rich and powerful and privileged maintaining their privilege
They are as doomed as the downtrodden
And the downtrodden are as blessed as the KINGS of the past
