What Is A NEW Perspective, Actually?

What is a NEW perspective?

New perspective is one of the two things:

Someone looking further, or deeper, or broader

Or someone looking from a different angle, different perspective

Looking deeper, further, broader, is a function of lens, is it not?

And what are the characteristics of the lens?

Maybe it can zoom well

Or maybe it’s wide, it’s a fish-eye

Or maybe it can do both

But also,

Maybe it distorts

Maybe it has a bias

And what is a bias?

Maybe it blurs the background. Is that a bias?

It focuses on the subject, and blurs the background. Is this a bug or a feature?

Or maybe it can do both, that would be ideal

There are many possibilities,

some can look very deep into something, notice tiny details,

some can instantly zoom in on the essence

some oversimplify, but in a practical, useful way,

some utterly distort, and make it sound like it’s the truth — because for them it IS the truth, it’s what they see

some can look very broadly and capture a lot of context

many options

And then,

Then there’s plain and simple different viewpoint, different perspective,

Your lens does not matter if you’re having a shitty viewpoint

Someone at a grandstand will get a better perspective even looking through old Nokia phone camera

It matters because if your lens is very powerful — you may get too used to getting a more accurate view of the situation — to the point that you disregard the advantage some have just by the virtue of looking from a different angle

Yes, when your lens is powerful — often the “new perspective” that others bring is either old for you — or outright distorted

When you’re very intelligent and perceptive and attentive — of course you had seen the details others are only now discovering

And of course you already figured out the quirks and fallacies they are now getting overexcited over

But,

Some people, even with poor lens, simply actually DO have a DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE, a REAL DIFFERENT ANGLE,

Even with their poor lens, poor perception, poor cognition — they SEE things you can’t see from your vantage point

RECOGNISE that

Use that

Use that

Appreciate TRUE different viewpoints, different perspectives, those unavailable to you

ATTEMPT to gain access to new viewpoints

And of course take good care of your lens — because it can get better, or it can deteriorate. Don’t be shocked when it deteriorates, and you become a different person.

Think more and learn more and work on your mental fitness. OBVIOUSLY brain is the instrument through which you relate to the world

Don’t take it for granted.

AND don’t take for granted through diversity of viewpoints, irrespective of the lens quality

Use that

And understand that about others too

Genius is indeed madness — not least because the lens works differently, or the viewpoint is different

Likewise there’s EPISTEMIC LUCK — a cognitively and ethically average person — stumbling upon TRUTH and USEFUL KNOWLEDGE, to their massive advantage

And of course, don’t try to convince fools to SEE something they simple are NOT physically capable of. Of course they can’t understand that which they can never see
