I often write that you should:
-give and give more
-make sure you give more in a relationship — so that you GUARANTEE that you keep it
-…and thus continue, selfishly, benefiting from that relationship
Here’s another puzzle:
Should you reward others EVEN IF it cost them nothing?
Answer is — obviously yes
First off — in doing so — you are protecting yourself from being wrong
What if you’re wrong and it DID cost them something?
In that case, you’re just an entitled ingrate, that got a free ride,
A SCROUNGER
Do you think it changes anything that you didn’t know?
The world doesn’t care about intentions — it cares about results
Intentions are downstream from results, not the other way around
Therefore obviously reward ANYTHING that benefits you
If you want it to keep happening to you
If you want to keep that relationship
Indeed the second point is:
In REWARDING IT — you make it clear you want more of it
You create incentive for the other party to keep giving this to you — so that you will reward them
It’s BASIC COMMUNICATION, no less
Finally, like I said many times,
in giving more — you create reciprocity
You end up getting even more in return, often
Treating others well is treating yourself well, selfishly
