The Fallacy Of Intangible

There’s the well-defined,

and there’s the intangible

relationships

fairness

attitude

intention

effort

will

intuition

confidence

worth

goodness

authenticity

attraction

But what does INTANGIBLE mean?

Does it mean those things don’t exist?

Does it mean those things are effectively intractable, UNCONTROLLABLE?

And therefore IRRELEVANT practically?

See that’s the fallacy of intangible, if you will

Acting as though intangible doesn’t exist

Or as though it can’t be dealt with whatsoever

Except,

that’s NOT what intangible means

Intangible may very well be difficult to define and understand and discuss and deal with

But it DOES exist

And that which exists — EXISTS in a VERY concrete way

It either exists — or doesn’t. Nothing “vague” and “intangible” and “fuzzy” about that

And it is therefore relevant

Intangible means you will have a hard time defining it precisely,

But you MAY BE ABLE to achieve SOME degree of precision

And then it’s game

Intangible means you may indeed find people disputing the existence of that very intangible thing

They will accuse you of making things up, of confabulating, or creating distractions, of sophism, and what have you

But

if you can’t agree on something important,

and as fundamentally as to agree on the existence of that thing,

then OF COURSE you will not find it easy to agree on anything else, will you

In which case, you really would be wise to recognise the severity of the situation beforehand,

and TERMINATE this arrangement,

now, of course,

that person might have only been gaslighting, making you appear crazy,

maybe they understood the “intangible” you referred the entire time

Indeed,

That it’s intangible doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist, or that it’s irrelevant

It’s not a true null hypothesis, if you will

Of course we should take what’s tangible and understood and well-defined — over stupid fucking fantasies, like religion

but when we have no better option — we deal with the uncertainty — and in as uncertain and vague and ill-defined form as it is

Don’t blame yourself for:

-having a problem with

-being fascinated by

-having doubts about

something INTANGIBLE

Don’t make the mistake of acting as though it’s clear and real. That’s just sloppy and courts catastrophic miscommunication

But don’t pretend it’s “logical” and “incisive” to DENY the existence of that which you simply can’t grasp, can’t understand, can’t even rationalise

And don’t fall for those who tell you those intangible things are not real

They are either manipulating you — or deluding themselves
