I Can Condemn You and Still Love You

It’s not just that we can be DIFFERENT — and I shall still love you

I could still love you — even if I condemn most things about you

For instance I obviously condemn MOST things about CATS:

-I hate killing mice and eating (or not eating) them

-I hate licking my anus

-SLACKING all day, doing fuckall

-I hate NOT doing my favourite human stuff, drinking whisky, playing my guitar, reading, thinking

and yet I ADORE CATS even more than most HUMANS

Love can be as little as me loving something lovely about you

I can find you despicable and still rather lovely

Maybe I will have to say goodbye to my love, in voicing my disgust with it

Maybe that lovely thing will not love being despised

Or maybe it won’t mind

The cats don’t mind

they play with their mouse and then I pat them

Nature doesn’t mind

this unending cycle of life and death, pleasure and suffering, rising and collapsing

The tools I use don’t mind

I just use them then throw them the fuck away

It’s not even immoral

I can love something,

then decide to ethically condemn it

AND get rid of it, so that my condemnation has weight

and so that I’m not in any way supportive

AND I can still love

There’s so much to love and admire

It’s a lovely feeling, love,

obviously

Don’t let those paradoxes,

the necessary principles and rules and boundaries,

don’t let those ruin that LOVE

You may need to sometimes give it up

But you don’t have to deny it’s existence

And of course — often you can fully indulge it,

while also, obviously, not loving everything else about that thing,

even despising
