Anything But (The Thing) Is A Distraction

Anything BUT (the thing) is a distraction

Either you do the thing — the right thing, the most important thing — or you’re distracting yourself

Whatever else you do, it well may be, and surely will be, of great value (that’s what makes it a perfect distraction, a perfect excuse)

But there is only one thing which is THE most important — and thus anything BUT that thing is a distraction — FROM that thing — therefore from WHAT IS IMPORTANT

The difference between the most important thing and the second most important thing is a GULF

The difference between the second most important thing and every other “important” thing also is a GULF

The returns are exponential for every increase in the importance of the thing you’re doing

You can get more done with one right action than with a lifetime of glorified distractions

Again: the difference is a gulf, it’s utterly fucking incomprehensible

How much more is a single DOLLAR worth in the hands of Warren Buffet? How much more can Elon Musk achieve with an hour of his time?

TIME is a resource, ENERGY is a resource, ATTENTION is a resource — you MANAGE it

You want to invest it in the absolutely most remunerative option

The most remunerative option is “the winner that takes all”

The gulf between the winner and the runner-up is immense

Sometimes there’s no runner-up, the winner really takes all

That’s how immense the difference is

And it COMPOUNDS. It only grows faster.

Now,

Please do do whatever you want

The only thing that matters is that you’re aware WHY you’re doing it

If you’re leaving money on the table — so be it. Just be aware of it

Delusion is ever the problem, the only problem

It’s you believing that you’re doing what is right — when in truth you’re just distracting yourself from what is truly important

You’re distracting yourself with details

You’re distracting yourself by compensating

You’re distracting yourself from the problems of existence

You’re even distracting yourself from living

If you do…

Therein lie your problems

Not outside, not even with HOW you fucking do it

If you’re doing the WRONG THINGS — it really doesn’t matter how well you do them

Now, one does not simply reverse the lifetime of self-deception and delusion and nonsense

You can begin by finally admitting WHAT IS RIGHT

And start noticing where you’ve been distracting yourself

You can’t expect yourself to immediately correct all your shortcomings. You’re not equipped to deal with so much change

You can however permit no more delusion and ignorance and self-deception in your life

And you can slowly begin to direct your attention to what is right

Do what is right — then take a break

DON’T pretend that you’re doing what is right “all day” — DO what is right, using as much energy as you have — then TAKE a break!

What matters is that you break the cycle of pretending-to-do-something with at least sometimes truly doing something,

The right thing will generally be exhausting!

The right thing will generally challenge you to challenge your reality

The right thing will demand you to do something new

Nothing is as terrifying as the NEW

1 hour of doing the right thing will likely be more exhausting then 8 hours of doing glorified nothing

Therefore take it slow

Therefore take it slow

Take it one thing at a time

Understand that it’s a GOOD SIGN that it’s so uncomfortable, strange, gruelling even

Understand that the following reasons are why you would have continued distracting yourself… if you didn’t understand the value of DOING THE RIGHT THING

And understand that the resistance you’re experiencing is actually resistance to taking it to the next level

You know that if you always did the most important thing — you would see unbelievable changes — for better or worse

We love our ignorance, it makes it so much easier for our ego to continue on it’s fantasies

We love our ignorance but it can’t survive the actual real-world action

Don’t distract yourself

Do what is necessary

This is the hardest simple advice
