What someone can’t do reveals more about their ability than what they can do
Anyone can do a whole lot of things
Anyone can think they know a whole lot of things and think they can do a whole lot of things
Anyone can talk big
Anything looks easy until you’ve tried and failed
Failure is the natural litmus test
It dispels the vagueness of your apparent ability and reveals your inability
What you failed immediately reveals some ceiling of your ability
While HOW you failed conveys surprisingly much about your actual ability
HOW you fail conveys much about your actual ability
-how resourceful you are
-how calm
-how perseverant
Don’t be so keen to focus on achievements, résumés, credentials, brags
Focus on anti-achievements, anti-resumes, anti-credentials
Focus on failures
No one fails on purpose
Therefore failures are REAL. No one fakes a failure so as to make a better impression.
Failures is what is left when the luck and ability run out.
Failures are what is real. Failure is the bubble finally popping.
This is when you see reality, unobscured by blind luck.
This is when you see what someone/something is truly made off
This is when you learn
Look for failures, look for the inabilities, look for shortcomings
Gauge the ability via negativa — by measuring inability
Of course to do it intelligently you must see the whole picture
You look for the inability in order to FILTER OUT THE ABILITY
The thesis is not that “something failed therefore something is a complete failure therefore something will continue failing everything”
Don’t be a negative cunt passing for a sceptic
The goal is to filter out true ability.
If you find someone failing GREAT, AMBITIOUS GOALS — this is a good thing. Obviously it means they are aiming high, aiming higher, elevating
Consider it in relation to that which they are SUCCESSFUL AT — and you have a more reliable image of their true ability.
Whereas mere story of their successes alone — without that extra information of their failures — would render a far less accurate image.
TEST OTHERS, TEST THINGS
Everyone is successful when times are good
Everyone is a great friend when times are good
Everything looks great when times are good
But when times are bad — that is when true colours show
This is when quality is revealed
Test things, test others immediately — and reveal their true quality
