There’s science

Then there’s a guess, a conjecture, a possibility, an attempt

And then there’s “beyond science”

 

Or so am I told

 

Do you know what’s “beyond science”?

That which is UTTERLY unknown

for now anyway,

but much of it forever, surely

 

The rest is SCIENCE, or SCIENCE-TO-BE

 

If it’s measured,

tested

hypothesis is logically, therefore coherently formulated

hypothesis then tested plenty times over

then we have SCIENCE

 

You and I have some science too

We do our best

We experiment

We find what works

If we can explain that method precisely and accurately, and then prove that it works as we described — this is pretty much science

And if we can’t explain it – it’s STILL science if it works

As long as we don’t pretend we can explain it — and just focus on the part that works, the fact that it works

e.g. grandmaster may not be able to explain the WHY of every move he makes — but he can demonstrate that this move is very strong — by winning chess games. That demonstration, enough times, is SCIENTIFIC enough

 

So that’s science

Of course not everything is reliable in our lives,

We still experiment, we still take action — and we get results

We guess, we approximate, we tinker — and it’s PRACTICAL, and over the long term it works out in our favour

That’s most life

 

And then finally the “beyond science”

It is simply the unknown

 

Now what’s the point of this whole exposition?

I sometimes heat that “I KNOW THIS — and it’s BEYOND SCIENCE”

No

No it’s not

If you “KNOW” something — THAT IS SCIENCE

And if something is “BEYOND” science — it’s UNKNOWN

And if it’s unknown… then well, you don’t know it, do you

 

THE DOMAIN OF KNOWING IS THE DOMAIN OF SCIENCE

The domain of living, trying things, creating, building, is a mix of knowing and unknowing, knowing and guessing

And then the domain of NOT KNOWING is indeed the “beyond science” — and you DON’T KNOW IT

 

So when you hear someone saying that they “KNOW”

Then it’s either science,

Or a well tested idea which very reliably works

If it’s not one of those two — then you’re dealing with a RELIGIOUS person

Or a FRAUD

Or a madman
