I believe in TANGIBLY IMPROVING EVERY DAY.
This is how I define success. This is how I define progress.
I believe other measures are less reliable.
The vital objection to this attitude is that GROWTH is not necessarily “DAILY”, and is not necessarily TANGIBLE,
Growth is not linear. You can have a BIG DAY one day and change your entire life. Or you can ruin years of work with a single bad decision.
Likewise the specific things you do right may not be possible to concretely explicate.
I do believe the “overnight” version of success is a DIFFERENT kind of success to that which I stated, and ultimately illusionary,
In a material world a lot of things can happen overnight. Yes.
But the true success is within, and is spiritual. It’s the ENERGY you carry within daily.
Therefore “overnight success” in the physical world is in the grand scheme of things meagre when compared to the true success of elevating one’s inner states.
I am not so quick to disregard the idea of “destroying what one has been building with a single bad decision”,
I do believe this to be a relevant objection to the idea of “daily improvement” being the only measure of success. Your daily improvement can be ruined with a singular misjudgement.
HOWEVER,
TRUE daily improvement, the way in which I posit it, which is:
-TANGIBLE
–REAL
-DAILY
I believe it invariably eventually leads to DEEPER change.
What I mean by that is that the pragmatic nature of the “tangible daily improvement” paradigm does not preclude GROWTH eventually turning INWARD, and DEEP,
I believe the “spiritual” realm, the mindset realm, the psychological realm, the philosophical realm — is as susceptible to the method of DAILY IMPROVEMENT as are physical pursuits.
Yes it is more abstract. More subjective. More prone to delusions of mind.
However it STILL can be measured, it still can be systematised, it still can be defined, it still can be MADE REAL.
ESPECIALLY if it maintains contact with REAL WORLD ACTION.
It is generally believed that the self-sabotage phenomenon, the “building and building only to destroy everything “phenomenon — is rooted in the subconscious.
I do believe TANGIBLE DAILY IMPROVEMENT, with it’s stress on REALITY and REAL OUTCOMES, and DAILY and even hourly MINDFULNESS of one’s goals — eventually invariably leads one to realise that further growth, further improvement — can only be brought about by turning more INWARDS,
The ruthless concreteness of this method serves to reveal the truth hidden deep within,
It eventually becomes impossible to avoid it. As addressing it will become the only way to continue improving.
And then it is addressed with seriousness and accountability of the superior growth mindset of “tangibly improving every day”.
