Don’t Find Yourself In The Wrong Pursuit

You are only what you did today.

Only what you tangibly improved today matters.

Only what you tangibly improved today is real.

You are only defined by what you tangibly did better today.

You are only worthy if you were worthy today. Only good if you were good today. Not yesterday, and NOT tomorrow.

I’ve been saying this for years.

I said that perhaps the only downside of this is that IN MATERIAL WORLD — years of HARD WORK can be DESTROYED with a single misstep.

Then I considered refutation — asserting that “tangible improvement every day” invariably eventually becomes very deep — subconscious-level deep — and thus addressees the very forces which lead to such self-destructive impulse and action.

Now that I think of it

It’s actually FAR more likely to DESTROY one’s life, if you focus on “GRAND” goals,

It’s far more likely to GO IN THE WRONG DIRECTION — if you’re only looking super far ahead.

I’m not against looking ahead.

I believe you should have “VISION”. Or “direction”,

I believe you must know where you NORTH STAR is — but in the same look at the road immediately ahead of you.

To put it more simply:

-I do believe you should have a VISION of your life, VISION of your work, in TIMES AHEAD — times outside of just today

-Guided by that vision you CHOOSE between many many things to which you could dedicate today

-You find the beautiful middle ground between what is REAL TODAY — and what will be REAL tomorrow.

-It’s a middle ground of RESULTS which aid you today — and aid you tomorrow

-It’s also a middle ground of LIFE-satisfaction — which you experience today — but will also want to experience tomorrow (and maybe even enhance)

However,

If your “vision” even in the SLIGHTEST detaches from reality,

Then you might as well be going in the wrong direction entirely,

Obviously

This can’t happen with “what you did today”,

Not if you define it as REAL AND TANGIBLE,

Immediate outcomes. Concrete goal, concrete actions, concrete outcome.

You can select the goals ANYWAY you want, to align with your long term goals. Likely you will have to be ingenious and NOT simplistic about it, if your VISION is indeed ambitious.

But the EVERYDAY GOALS ARE REAL. EVERYDAY STEPS are REAL. You made a step forward — or you didn’t.

But if your vision detaches from that, if it doesn’t involve CONCRETE STEPS which you can REALISE WITH ACCOUNTABILITY TODAY — then you essentially don’t know where you’re going. You think there’s a place somewhere to which you are going — but for all you know it may as well be hell, not paradise.

I see it with ideologues.

I see it with those who buy into someone else’s idea of success

Hell I see it with anyone who defines success as anything but succeeding today.

Besides the existential angst of unending anticipation of the day of arrival fuck-knows-where….

…besides the low self-esteem if the journey is not going as “envisioned”…

…there’s the VERY REAL RISK of LITERALLY GOING IN THE WRONG DIRECTION,

LITERALLY being on the WRONG SHIP,

So please don’t trap yourself in the wrong pursuit.

DEFINE what must be done today — DO IT — then celebrate. Repeat the next day.

Please don’t pick a LOSING battle, please don’t pick the WRONG side. Please don’t let anyone convince you that there is anything outside of SELF-BETTERMENT TODAY.

The further away from today their “Vision” is — the more suspect you must be.

The further disconnected from REAL ACTIONS AND REAL OUTCOMES TODAY — the more suspect you must be.

It may be a road to nowhere,

Or it may even be a road to hell,

You may even waste your life. Because you believed you were on the right side,

And that’s because you believed that something SEPARATED from your life today could ever be TRUSTED.
