There are INDIVIDUAL VALUES you DEVELOP by the virtue of LIVING YOUR LIFE, and living it AS AN INDIVIDUAL.
Then there are VALUES YOU ABSORB from everywhere else:
-values you’re born with (as an animal)
-values you inherit from the society
this type of “values” being persistently confused for personal values, and believed to have more sophistication than animalistic values — while really their sophistication is similarly disappointing — in that both are similarly unconscious
The more INDIVIDUAL VALUES you develop — the less ABSORBED VALUES you retain.
-you are more likely to choose YOUR PERSONAL VALUES over values you were merely born with,
-you are less likely to ABSORB subconsciously some values from the society or environment
Those who share VALUES — VALUE EACH OTHER
And the more individual and specific your values — the more likely you are to value, and BE VALUED, by someone with similar values.
Therefore it’s unlikely for you to NOT BE VALUED by someone who shares your values — if you both have true, INDIVIDUAL, sophisticated values
But if your values are actually “absorbed” values, superficial values — then of course you’re far more likely to NOT be valued :
-because those you seek approval of are not differentiated , too broad and random of a group
-and likewise you yourself are NOT differentiated , not set apart in any way.
Basically,
-you’re representing the values of the masses — and those values are of course available to the masses, common — and that which is a commodity and widely available is obviously less demanded and thus less valued.
-And likewise — what you yourself value is so common and UNDIFFERENTIATED — that in a sense you yourself don’t even value it.
I believe what happens then is that you either become apathetic (axiologically, “value-wise”, aesthetically) — or confused, disoriented, about what it is that you even VALUE
And then you contrive a third branch of VALUES — FANTASIES
Fantasies: which are exaggerated version of the values you heretofore adhered to, ad-hoc saved from being falsified (in their innate worthlessness) by being IDEALISED, TURNED into FANTASIES,
The outcome?
Celebrities, plastic, fast cars, pictures from vacations…
When you adhered to the values of the masses — you had little chance of being valued, and that which you valued was so common so as to be near impossible to value
Now that you adhere to fantasy values — now you have no chance of being valued, nor valuing anything at all — besides your fucking fantasies
Because fantasies don’t exist
Conclusion?
I do not believe in NOT finding value in this world,
And I do not believe in NOT being valued,
Not if you take the pains to become an individual
And once you did — you find another individual — who shares your values
And you share those values together now, and value each other
If you are having a different experience of the world — then start with yourself
Become an individual first
Develop your values
To be valued
