Only insightful people create new insights

But regular people can nevertheless UNDERSTAND those insights, or at least TAKE ADVANTAGE of them

BUT this doesn’t make the two on par

 

CREATING is not the same as appreciating

BUILDING is not the same as using the thing, obviously

 

Of course there are also people who can’t even understand the insights made by others,

And who can’t even enjoy what has been built by others, they will destroy it instead

 

I suppose that’s what makes illusion that understanding something is almost the same as being the one who created this understanding, this insight, this knowledge,

Because there are so many men who can’t even do that much

 

This is of course the bigger problem

If you can’t even appreciate what is good — you not only won’t bring more of it — you will actually destroy it

I believe we’re witnessing this happen, and from people of the most varied political, religious, cultural backgrounds

 

And then of course those that can appreciate it — but nevertheless can’t create it — that is a problem too

Because then we fail to appreciate the creators,

We think that the one whose good at explaining why something is good, and how deeply he believes in those values, and how nuanced his understanding is — we think that man is the one to spearhead us to the next level

No he’s not, probably

 

It’s the misfit, probably,

The positively abnormal, if you will

Not the negatively abnormal, the one who can’t even appreciate that which is good about the normal

But the POSITIVELY abnormal — one who can actually appreciate what is good about the normal — and then still IMPROVE upon it

 

I think this is a useful trichotomy

All too often we mistake the arsonist for the visionary

Or even the normal uncreative but stable and useful — for the actually creative and evolutionary
