Let’s be nihilistic and assume that all that you will have acquired, built, developed — is inevitably going to shit
Because you die, because those that inherit it will die too, and because those that come afterwards won’t give a shit, your contribution will have became a drop in the ocean, finite you vs infinite time
Then it REALLY is about the JOURNEY, isn’t it? It’s not about the destination
and it really is about what you VALUE, and how you demonstrate it every day,
rather than any particular endpoint
And if you actually take this idea TRULY seriously — it really will liberate you from having to “WIN”
Because winning is what you do day-to-day — not a place you arrive at
But again,
I mean TRULY seriously,
not merely as a fucking consolation price
BUT TRULY being comfortable with WASTING your life on something,
because you BELIEVED IN IT,
and then it failed, TRULY failed,
it failed, no one cared, and you got NOTHING for it
you got NOTHING for it
nothing except… satisfaction
nothing except conviction… that you GAVE IT YOUR ALL
And this is all lovely
Except it’s not
Because if you’re achieved nothing, you’ll likely get to “enjoy” those rotten fruits at some point,
The future becomes the present, at some point
And there you are, reap what you sow
The nuance is,
You don’t pick goals that are DOOMED, because “who cares about the destination”,
The destination must STILL make sense
You can’t NOT make sense
“It’s about the journey, not the destination” doesn’t make sense
It’s not how journey works
It’s not how anything works
Things move from A to B,
Discovering that “journey is better than the destination” is merely discovering that JOURNEY is all there is, it’s everything,
It’s you today deciding what you’re GOING TO DO, how you’re going to LIVE — rather than WAITING for some fixed, glorious moment in time… which is just an illusion, for any single moment in time is but infinitely small, utterly ephemeral, passing
and then you’re back to having to CHOOSE what the fuck to do, how the fuck to LIVE
so
you don’t IGNORE the destination. When you’re moving, you WILL invariably move in certain direction, it just can not be avoided
The nuance is that you’ll NEVER STAY THERE
therefore, once you have chosen your direction — this is IT
THEN you focus on the journey
Failing is fucking lame.
Failing doesn’t make any sense. Failing is slowly killing yourself. When you’re alive, LIVE, and get the most out of this life
YOLO (“you only live once”) is lame because it escapes responsibility for giving your life meaning
You choose meaning, you give yourself purpose
Doesn’t have to be bombastic, albeit it could be
Either way it doesn’t matter, it’s just an excuse, if you will
It’s just an inevitability
You can do this well or you can fuck this up, gloss over it
Only one option makes sense
But once you made sense, or didn’t make sense — what will truly matter is how much CARE AND ATTENTION you give to it now
How much you make out of this journey
Get it?
It’s literally as simple as:
-select the ABSOLUTE best option, most glorious and promising
-do it with care
-and then give all your attention and care and love to this journey, this process
-to the point that this vague notion of some fixed destination becomes almost utterly irrelevant
-it’s a bonus at best, another feature of the journey
-and if it “fails utterly” — it doesn’t matter if you:
-TRULY gave your utmost care to that choice
-TRULY gave it EVERYTHING, it was truly WORTH DOING, WORTH LIVING FOR ANYWAY
+learned your lesson… because otherwise it doesn’t make fucking sense, ergo you’re more dead than alive, a dumb sack of potatoes and not human
