if you were to look back at your life, and think of an improvement
would you choose to be more lazy
more stupid,
more mediocre
?
obviously not
would you choose to have less?
to have things in lower quality?
to have things inferior?
?
obviously not
now, would you choose to be more “successful”, or would you choose to have had “more fun” ?
if you got “successful” — likely you’d wish you also had more fun
but typically if you had fun — you don’t feel like it justified “being a loser”
I don’t see a compromise
You want to look back at your life and
know that you REALLY DID YOUR BEST,
and in the same time — make sure you were ALWAYS SMILING
which could depend on you having had fun,
or perhaps it’s predominately a matter of attitude
An attitude of always smiling, always finding the bright side, always making the most out of every moment
This is yet another take on the false dichotomy of the “current happiness” vs “long term success”, this kind of nonsense that we believe is mutually exclusive
I believe the truth is — if you DID ABSOLUTELY YOUR BEST TODAY — then you both found profound joy and satisfaction — AND benefited yourself tomorrow
