To NOT discriminate is to DISCRIMINATE.
More precisely: to NOT discriminate fairly — is to discriminate either randomly or unfairly
Discriminating unfairly is obviously unfair.
And discriminating randomly is more fair than discriminating unfairly — but less fair than discriminating fairly.
Let’s say you are an employee and you want a computer program written.
Therefore you are looking for a programmer.
Therefore you discriminate in favour of those who actually know how to program.
THEREFORE you discriminate AGAINST those who don’t know programming languages.
Let’s say someone says that discriminating against someone just because he doesn’t know programming languages is “unfair”,
He will now combat this injustice and discrimination by giving those “discriminated against” an “OPPORTUNITY”.
Thus he will now select them for the “programmer” position, in order to combat this perceived discrimination.
Now, since the job opportunities are limited (there can only be so many programmers in this world) — for someone to be selected someone else will now have to be NOT selected (or removed).
That someone will be an actual qualified programmer
Thus, ironically, he is now discriminated against
And he is discriminated against unfairly
Because he was more fit for the job.
And if this adverse selection continues — eventually you ONLY have the incompetent
At which point it would EVEN be better to PICK candidates randomly
Maybe one of them would know how to code
Now this was a simplified example,
The world is more complicated,
-human potential is complicated
-human competence can be complicated
-the goals and needs of an organisation are complicated and unclear
The world is more complicated,
Too complicated for most of us,
And unfortunately, the most of the most of us is UNAWARE of this elementary ignorance,
WE ARE NOT AWARE THAT WE DON’T UNDERSTAND THIS WORLD
And thus we run around proclaiming what is fair and what is unfair, what is right and what is wrong
And intervening
And making stupid fucking false improvements
And thus, the champion of NON-DISCRIMINATION is actually the WORST PERPETRATOR of DISCRIMINATION
Why?
-Because he’s unable to discriminate fairly
-Instead he discriminates based on what he PERCEIVES to be “fair” — which is at best random — and at worst is actually a negative selection, selection of the INFERIOR
The ONLY SOLUTION to unfair discrimination is FAIR discrimination. It’s self-evident.
Therefore the only solution to unfair discrimination is constantly IMPROVING the SELECTION PROCESS.
I don’t say it’s easy. I did say the world is complicated.
What looks good on PAPER often doesn’t look so great in practice.
It’s still better however than what looks good from the vantage points of someone’s political and cultural indoctrination and false morality
The truth is it starts with you and me,
Yes, large systems (e.g. corporations) are entities of their own volition
But you are not powerless
And VALUE is not a revolutionary idea. VALUE is VALUE.
Whether you as an individual derive value from someone/something’s contribution, or whether it’s the system which benefits — VALUE IS VALUE.
Therefore to learn to discriminate accurately in favour of the most VALUABLE people and solutions and ideas is to learn to generate more value
This is not a “revolutionary” idea as it is purported to be
Value DOES prevail, over the long term
The only thing that is revolutionary about all of that is FACING THE TRUTH
Which is that we are NOT equal
Some of us are more fit to some things, some to other things
And then the hard truth is that we are not so great at predicting someone’s performance, or utility in the system
Those are the hard truths which require you to humble up
And perhaps the hardest truth lies in the kernel of this whole modern war against “discrimination” — the truth about our inner emptiness,
We want to bring some meaning into our life,
We want some cause in our lives,
And we want to have but the slightest hope that perhaps we are not so horrible and inadequate,
That perhaps we are “good”
ALAS
This is not the way
You are not good by siding with an idea which sounds “good”
In truth it’s the opposite: this makes you ignorant therefore evil
There’s no shortcut to goodness,
Except for
doing good
So start doing good
by improving your JUDGEMENT
Making better choices in your life
DISCRIMINATING MORE INTELLIGENTLY, ACCURATELY, FAIRLY
Your life will be better for it
People around you will be better for it
Your organisation will be better for it
And the world will be a better, more fair place, for it
