There’s this idea that you should be “obsessed”
It’s great being “obsessed”
It’s a terrible idea to try being “obsessed”
Can you force love?
Can you force inspiration?
Can you even force interest?
And even if you can force things — how healthy do you think it is to rely on force
And is this not a waste of energy?
And is this not perverse, really? Is this not a perversion?
Trying to force being “obsessed” is a terrible idea
It’s a false standard to which naive aspire to
It leads to burn-out
Don’t
What’s with being obsessed? Naturally?
When you’re obsessed, you:
-don’t get tired
-don’t get bored
-foremost – don’t get distracted
Obsession is ALMOST a prerequisite to greatness
That’s because most of us really can’t muster that level of engagement, level of attention
It only happens to us when we become obsessed
Let that state emerge
I told you NOT to force it; Don’t force it
But when you see it coming — let it emerge
Even if your field of interest is not exactly admirable — still let it emerge
At the very least you will have learnt what it’s like to be single-minded and DEDICATED
Yes, that “dedication” of which gurus keep fucking blabbering, again, as thought it’s something you can so easily will into being
Understand that when you’re obsessed — you are like 10 times as productive (pardon my math)
Normally you work during your work hours, about half of the 8 hours you’re at work — the other half being wasted in front of the water cooler, checking mail, bureaucracy, working for work’s sake, stressing for stress’s sake, what have you
When you’re obsessed you work with burning obsession for 8 hours — then think for another 4 hours, and get inspired for another 4 hours, and then, get more inspired and empowered during your 8 hours of good, hard-earned sleep
Yeah
Let yourself be obsessed
10 times more productive?
10 times nothing is nothing, true
But 10 times “mere half” of something is 5 times something
And you love every bit of it too
Let yourself be passionate
Let yourself be obsessed
