There is no strength without resistance.
Obviously there isn’t!
Strength can only exist in relation to something.
You can’t just be strong.
You can only be strong in relation to something. In relation to the doing of something, or in relation of persisting in certain way.
This simple definition sheds much light (all the light) at what strength really is, and what it really means to be strong.
To be strong basically means to withstand/overcome resistance.
It does not mean to lift 1000kg, buy a 1000000$ car or ‘hustle’ for 100 hours a week.
It could mean that, depending on the situation… but we are trying to see what it really means to be strong, beyond any fixed definition.
I tell you that lifting 1000kg or whatever can not be done on steroids, or with a fucking lift.
I tell you buying a 10000000$ car or whatever can be done with 10000000$, or something.
I tell you that working for 100 hours a week is merely a habit.
Ultimately none of this necessarily involves any resistance.
Consequently, it has nothing to do with strength.
Similarly, courage is not fearlessness. Courage is to overcome fear… not have it absent from one’s life.
Obviously, this entire “cult of strength” is nothing but an egoic diversion.
We instinctively respect strength because it gets the job done. It literally moves things. It’s an integral part of the workings of this world. Obviously we “respect it”, simply by acknowledging it. Not acknowledging it would be delusional.
What is key to understand, however, is that, psychologically, STRENGTH doesn’t engender ACTION… it PROCEEDS IT.
Just like confidence, STRENGTH is the result of ACTION, not it’s cause.
Striving for STRENGTH without ACTION is impossible.
Striving for STRENGTH in order to be able to take action is ABSURD. Strength won’t cause you to take action. It is impossible. YOU cause yourself to take action.
The STRENGTH this world’s pursuing is an ILLUSION. It’s a SYMBOL. Symbol is never THE THING. You simply like to look strong, and feel strong.
Inquire again into this whole phenomenon of STRENGTH and see that it can only be in the face of RESISTANCE.
We “pursuit strength” yet we avoid resistance. This is utterly absurd.
Don’t pursuit strength nor avoid resistance. To “pursuit strength” is meaningless. To avoid resistance is to avoid life.
Don’t seek resistance either. It is always there. Accept resistance, pull through it… without resistance.
This is the true strength.
It’s not fancy, yet I assure you, if you can gracefully, steadily walk through both the glory and adversity, you are now far more powerful then any vain idea of strength, any vain symbol of strength, had ever been.
