Toys are new = novelty.
First they are new by the very fact that you don’t have them
Second they are new because toys are continuously updated, to keep you enthralled
Toys benefit from memetic value
Which itself benefits from scarcity
We want that which others want. The more we don’t know what we ourselves want — the more we want what others have. And we barely ever know what we want
And that which the world wants is built in directly into scarcity
That which is scarce by definition can be held by only a few
Therefore remains NEW and EXOTIC to others
That alone makes it more in demand, because we want that which is new, and that which is special
And that slight increase in demand from the average person, multiplied by the vast majority of people NOT having it — explodes the price. The more people want something, the greater the chance that some of them are willing to pay more, if threatened by supply running out
But this in turn makes it even more desirable — because now the value we project onto it is actually projected outwards, reified into concrete number, the price
So it’s a vicious circle
Which is why every product must have cheapo garbage version for those who want to have it, irrespective of the function (sacrificed to drive the price down)
Then normal price for those that want just the function,
then higher price for those who want to feel they get more value, because they can,
and much higher price for those entranced by DESIRE divorced from all genuine function or genuine individuality
Now, back to your mediocre, boring, pathetic little life
There’s only as much new there as you make it
And for that NEW you have to pay the REAL price.
Price of your energy, your attention, your time
You can’t just buy something with a label “NEW” plastered on it
And there’s only as much VALUE as your capacity to VALUE
Because no one walks behind you and pats you on the back and stamps a 1000$ label on top of every though and every opinion and every turd you produced
At best your remunerative work is reflected in real number: number of sales, number of dollars charged
But not your passions, not your well being, not your emotions, not your ideas, not your relationships, not your love life, not your health
GRANTED we have been doing ALL in our power to put a price on the latter too
Prostituting every aspect of our lives on the internet, with faint hope that someone puts some number on it, some number of likes, some number of views
But that thankfully is unsustainable for most — because thankfully genuinely most people don’t give a fuck about you so much — they only give a fuck about themselves
So alas you get no NUMBER on your life, to tell you how much VALUE it has
So it’s rather unexciting
Unlike a new expensive car
Indeed, even the most impressive of us,
the most happy to brag, and the most fortunate to have something to brag about, have someone to brag to, and someone to impress,
even they get bored
and wait for the fucking toy
Oh and what happens if the monetary price becomes meaningless?
What happens when you can afford anything?
Well we look for a new toy
And that is often healthier,
And that is often SICKER,
It’s healthier for it becomes a bit more complicated than just looking for something with the highest price, looking for the world to tell us what to value
But it’s less healthy if we use the same mindset in selecting that next thing
If we still 100% rely on the world, on anything but ourselves — in determining the price
Perhaps now we want more fame
Or more power
Perhaps we get interested in politics, because it’s such an inspiring thing after all, right
Or perhaps all we can do is clown online
Though the two seem less and less differentiated
Of course it’s all futile
The answer is within, banal as it sounds
If you can’t get excited about going for a walk — then nothing will excite you much anyway
If you can get excited just thinking, or just walking, or better yet just sitting and watching, or better yet just sitting and observing within — do that and you unlock infinite excitement
AND simultaneously utterly devalue the false gods
WHICH in turn makes you value the REAL GODS only more
Because they no longer come out tepid in comparison to false gods
Opposite becomes true — the REAL gods, the REAL life — are the most real, the most exhilarating, the most beautiful, the most marvelous, the most sexy thing under the sun — IN comparison with the fake and plastic and stupid and flashy
…which again is not to say that our world’s products are so vain
That’s not the point, and I LOVE all my predecessors and brothers have created
The point is that your INDIVIDUAL EXPERIENCE, INDIVIDUAL PERCEPTION, INDIVIDUAL PERSPECTIVE…
…and INDIVIDUAL PASSION, INDIVIDUAL WORK, INDIVIDUAL PURPOSE…
are INFINITELY more exhilarating than someone else’s
and infinitely more satisfying
the false, the someone-else’s, CAN’T possibly be satisfying, because it’s predicated on a lie, it’s predicated on you ASSUMING that it will have value because others value it, because others put a price on it
It only looks satisfying as long as you don’t have it
And it’s so designed that you shall never have it
…While that which you can have, you reject
Because it’s scary to OWN WHAT YOU ARE, OWN WHAT YOU WANT
You’d rather want what others want
Do what others want you to do
That is less scary
So you can NEVER permit yourself to VALUE what you VALUE
To cherish what you have
That is too dangerous
The world will think you’re a failure, and despise you and reject you
But it’s you who must reject the world
Reject there where it can’t authentically, can’t actually better you
There where it imposes itself on you, and in turn unifies it’s individual components, and in turn destroys itself, bereaves itself of it’s heterogeneity and therefore life
But it starts with you, since you’re the individual,
It’s you who must get excited
It’s you who must YOURSELF find yourself a TOY
Not wait for your mommy to give it to you
You find a stick or two and make a sword
You become the knight
You feel courage and power
THIS is how life should feel like
It should as inspiring as it felt when you GOT YOUR TOY
EVERYTHING YOU DO should be your plaything
Everything you do should be fun
You don’t wait for joy
You don’t wait for a toy
You don’t wait for the world to approve it
You don’t wait for anyone to put a price on it, tell you that it’s valuable and worthwhile
YOU put a price on it
YOU do what the fuck you want
YOU do what you genuinely value
You play
JUST play
Look around your dull, mediocre, pathetic life,
and CONCEIVE of it being AS MUCH FUN as the BEST OF TOYS,
Then MAKE IT SO
Emotionally, through the power of your attention, thoughts, attitudes,
And practically — through DOING
Just play
